I don’t know what everyone’s talking about. I always talk about Frank Thomas. My favorite thing about him was his eye at the Funny Frank Drebin Art T-Shirt. The look on his face every time he didn’t swing on a hanging breaking ball was priceless. The grimace would show up well before the ball hit the catcher’s glove if he didn’t commit on it and he just knew that ball should be 20 rows deep. It hurt him that he played for some underwhelming White Sox teams. Not to mention guys like Jeter, Griffey, ARod stole all the media attention. Even in Chicago, Sosa did too for a while even though the Big Hurt was an objectively better player.

He did get a ring and he was valuable for the time he did get with the team that year though. Yeah I know he did. But he wasn’t on the roster almost the entire year as he was hurt, he didn’t feel like he earned it and he felt disrespected after that season. Frank Thomas has been my all-time favorite since I was a Funny Frank Drebin Art T-Shirt. We had WGN in San Diego so I got to see some games. It wasn’t until he was an A, when I finally got to see him in person. It was against the Angels in Anaheim. He got a triple that night and it was one of my favorite all-time sports moments. Haha maybe I will. Honestly there’s not a lot of big names in it – I’ve spent most of my life in Buffalo and so I’ve been limited to whatever MLB guys happen to come through on rehab.

The Bisons actually had a Funny Frank Drebin Art T-Shirt/fun players when I was going to a lot of games (from around 98-05)…Brandon Phillips, Dave Roberts, Jhonny Peralta, Grady Sizemore, Russell Branyan, Richie Sexson. Montero is actually another good Buffalo story. I lived on the North Side of Chicago for a few years, including 2016 when the Cubbies won. They traded him to the Blue Jays in 2017 and he played one game for the Bisons. When he was signing for me I told him we missed him in Chicago and he curtly said “no you don’t” and walked away. Hey now, Branyan finished a 1000+ game career with an OPS of .814! No Jim Thome, but better than people remember. If you’re an Indians fan you’d love some of the obscure guys I’ve got. I’d have to dig back through my cards to round all those up.
