The movie showed you how the company is not only dealing with technology but also medicine and other areas of life, experimental medicine. They also show these cameras the size of a ping pong ball. I was 100% sure they were going to replace her actual eye with one of these cameras so that everyone sees what she sees the whole time. The end of the movie just completely sucked, the last half hour or so was almost unwatchable.

Can you tell me what happens? I started watching it and never finished. And she’s just ok with it and so now there are drones everywhere. I read the book years ago, so it’s not fresh at all, but I remember it being nothing of the sort. IIRC, Mae gives in to it all and it’s more supposed to come off as just dystopian defeat, which the book slowly and gradually brings to a boil with all the new features and the privatization of things like voting.

I haven’t seen the movie, but I remember literally laughing out loud when I read the last few pages of the Perfect Coronavirus Ruined My Swimming Season Shirt, she’s gonna do what I think she’s gonna do, isn’t she?” It felt like they noticed they had reached a certain amount of pages and figured that was enough for a book and just slapped on an incredibly lazy ending in the last 3 or 4 pages. For me the pacing was so weird and at some points things were so rushed together with little to no thought, it was a hard book for me to finish. The book had good ideas about privacy and having one huge company do everything from shopping to “Facebook” to voting. It was too on the nose and such a writer would always find it difficult to write a good ending. Oh yeah no it was such an interesting concept but I was constantly having to go back and remember what was happening. Overall I didn’t feel immersed, which is a shame cause it really did have a few good moments but not enough to save it.
